A Texas grand jury has indicted Netflix over their original film “Cuties,” a French film that has been the cause of much controversy over claims that it depicts children in a sexually provocative light.

The Tyler County jury charged the media company with promoting “visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area” of an underage child. The indictment said this depiction “has no serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value,” but instead “appeals to the prurient interest in sex.  . . .”

Netflix has not commented on the charges. Back in September the company released a statement on the film that read “It’s an award winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”
